CompTIA Initiates CEO Search

CompTIA, following the announcement of its potential sale, launched an industry-wide, internal and external search for a new CEO. This appointment, it noted, is contingent on the sale being approved and completed.

The association is the leading global, vendor-neutral and non-profit technology organization for MSPs, vendors, distributors and other companies serving the technology ecosystem. Its members are a trusted group of industry peers who have access to exclusive tools and resources needed to build a thriving business and contribute to the growth of the IT channel.

Its new CEO will succeed current president and CEO, Todd Thibodeaux, who is departing to lead the newly formed for-profit certification and training company that is owned by the private equity buyers.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to grow the association from a strong base of programs and engagement to become a truly indispensable, broad-based resource for the global IT channel,” said Scott Barlow, vice chair of the CompTIA Board and chair of the CEO of the search committee. “A reimagined model for the association will deliver even more impactful programs with a much greater focus.”

Barlow, who is also global VP MSP and cloud alliances for Sophos, is joined on the search committee by fellow CompTIA board members:

  • Toni Clayton-Hine (CMO, EY)
  • Jason Magee (former CEO, ConnectWise)
  • John Tippett (former CompTIA member of the year and COO, Cytracom)

CompTIA noted that the ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven ability to lead and drive consensus.
  • Global perspective and curiosity.
  • Ability to create consistent, sustainable visions and strategies for engagement.
  • Strong motivational and outstanding communication skills.
  • Bias toward outreach and building relationships.
  • Capacity to turn complex challenges into simple strategies.
  • Awareness of how to maintain momentum toward outcomes.
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.

Experience with charitable giving and philanthropy.
