Data security firm Cyera unveiled its 2024 Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) Adoption report.
Of note, the company revealed that 75 percent of organizations will implement DSPM within the next 12 months, highlighting the role that DSPM plays in managing data security risk across modern, multi-environment infrastructures. Cyera also noted that DSPM’s rate of adoption outpaces other security technology, including SSE, XDR and CSPM.
The report also listed fragmented tools, limited data discovery and outdated classification methods as among the top data security challenges for security teams, given that they create security blind spots that leave critical business data vulnerable.
“Organizations today are under relentless pressure to extract maximum value from their data while driving critical business initiatives – whether it’s deploying AI and IoT solutions, expanding into new markets or seizing emerging opportunities,” said Cyera CISO, Lamont Orange. “As a result, the demand for DSPM solutions is skyrocketing. These tools are becoming essential for comprehensive data discovery, classification and posture, enabling businesses to protect their most sensitive data and use the data to derive additional business value.”
Key findings include:
- Visibility gaps compromising security, with 83 percent of respondents believing that a lack of visibility into data is weakening overall security posture, underscoring the need for tools that provide comprehensive and real-time visibility into sensitive data across all environments.
- Deficiencies in data discovery and classification, with 87 percent of enterprises finding current data discovery and classification solutions lacking.
- Challenges in detecting and responding to exposures, with over 60 percent of organizations feeling unconfident in their ability to detect and respond to data security.
- Demand for core DSPM features, including real-time data monitoring (43 percent), data discovery (38 percent) and data classification (35 percent) viewed as the core features that enterprises should prioritize.
“The increased importance of data to the organization’s mission is forcing security teams to rethink their security strategies to be more data-centric,” said Orange. “DSPM gives organizations the awareness of their data that they need to make critical security decisions without impacting the regular flow of business.”
Cyera’s survey polled 637 IT and cybersecurity professionals, revealing DSPM approaches, challenges, current solutions’ effectiveness and 12-month adoption plans.
