Novus LLC has begun selling Phybridge Inc.’s 8-port data switch, a solution for small businesses for whom larger capacity switches are overkill.
The Power over Long Reach Ethernet (PoLRE) LPC switch delivers Ethernet and PoE over a single pair of voice-grade copper wire with four times the reach of traditional Ethernet switches. The PoLRE switch combines single-pair Ethernet with power capabilities to provide a platform for IP telephony deployments.
The switch eliminates many of the LAN barriers to VoIP migration: The plug-and-play switch allows end customers and VoIP providers to create a separate LAN, leveraging the existing voice infrastructure.
“The small business market has been lacking a product like this,” said Chris Meehan, managing partner at Novus. “For most, the more ubiquitous 24-port and 48-port switches are excessive, providing much more capacity, cost and complexity than what is needed. This product enables you to deploy IP telephony for about 80 dollars per port and it does video streaming. You pop this in and have IP phones on your desk the same day. You don’t have to worry about pulling cable.”
He added, “There are tens of millions of small businesses in the U.S. and they are frequently underserved with respect to technology tailored specifically to them. This is an exception.”
The new 8-port switch is part of Phybridge’s extended PoLRE family of switches, which include 24-port and 48-port switches capable of supporting thousands of users.
