Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia to Power SK Telecom’s 5G Service

SK Telecom has selected Samsung, Nokia and Ericsson to provide the equipment for its 5G network.

The companies will supply base stations and additional transmission infrastructure for SK Telecom.

“SK Telecom selected the aforementioned three companies for the realization of the 5G ecosystem and world-class service quality,” the company stated, adding that technological capability, as well as financial factors, were considered during the decision.

Commercial operations for SK Telecom’s 5G mobile network will begin in March 2019. Data transmission speeds are expected to be 40 to 50 times faster than the company’s existing 4G network.

The announcement closely follows recent 5G updates from Verizon and AT&T.
