Channel-centric business IP voice provider Star2Star Communications has announced the StarPhone IP softphone client for the iPhone, which combines a full-featured IP telephone application with presence and voicemail tools. The softphone allows users to place and receive calls via iPhone, using any Star2Star telephone system.
A color-coded display shows availability and status of other users, while a favorites list offers one-touch dialing for frequently-called numbers.
“For years, businesses have been searching for a simple, cost-effective way to make employees more reachable,” said Norman Worthington, CEO of Star2Star. “StarPhone provides excellent on-the-go connectivity with the added bonus of excellent presence tools.”
StarPhone users appear on the Star2Star system as standard extensions, with access to all Star2Star system features. Calls to other extensions can be made using the Softphone’s built-in dialing directory, or the user can enter any three- or five-digit extension number. Outbound calls made from the softphone travel over the IP data network, and are not billed for airtime as cellular calls.
Calls can be made and received over virtually any IP network, including public Wi-Fi hotspots. If no Wi-Fi is available, calls can be placed and received using the phone’s 3G or 4G data connection. Users also can take advantage of Find Me / Follow Me call routing to automatically send calls to their softphone after a pre-determined number of rings.
