Tech Data has completed the acquisition of Brightstar Corp.’s 50 percent ownership interest in TDMobility, an end-to-end mobility practice that covers everything from device selection and activation to security and mobile device management in the data center.
TDMobility was formed as a U.S. joint venture between Tech Data Corporation and Brightstar in April 2011.
“Acquiring full ownership of the joint venture reflects our commitment to grow our presence in the U.S. mobility distribution and services market,” said Joe Quaglia, senior vice president of U.S. marketing for Tech Data and president at TDMobility. “Mobility is an important element of our diversification strategy and TDMobility’s unique capabilities provide value-added resellers with a simple platform from which to offer a complete mobility solution to end users. We thank Brightstar for its partnership in helping to establish and expand the joint venture.”
TDMobility features two flagship offerings, CellManage and TDActivate, designed to streamline the mobile supply chain and end users’ wireless infrastructure. Tech Data has key agreements in place with Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint, enabling resellers to offer all carrier products and services under a single ordering and management system.
Earlier this year, Tech Data launched its enhanced TDMobility University, a training and education portal available exclusively to its program members. The portal provides more robust applications, online training videos and step-by-step resources to help solution providers build a mobility business, and includes sales, product training, and access to demo programs.
