tw telecom inc. is expanding its existing market footprint for business Ethernet and network services in Portland, Ore. The carrier will build into the south of town, as well as to areas west, including Beaverton, Hilllsboro and Tigard.
“Recent economic growth in the region is fueling increased demand for bandwidth by growing businesses and expanding research activity,” said Skip Newberry, president of the Technology Association of Oregon. “tw telecom’s expanded investments in the region will help to further enhance one of the most connected metro areas in the country.”
The company serves various Portland business customers and data centers directly and via channel partners, including the Oregon Clinic, Women’s Healthcare Associates and Portland Community College.
“Customer demand – both new and existing – is fueling this growth in the western and southern portions of the Portland metro area,” said Jon Nicholson, vice president and general manager, tw telecom Portland. “Additional locations can now be served directly by extending our network to these key corridors of commerce within Portland. By being closer to these locations, we will be able to deliver better, faster and easier network solutions to solve customers’ business problems.”
The Portland expansion is part of a national multi-market effort by the company to expand its metro fiber footprint by approximately 17 percent across the country. As part of this effort, tw telecom plans to enter into five new markets – Boston,Cleveland, Philadelphia, Richmond, Va. and Salt Lake City – and accelerate the density of its metro-fiber footprint in more than a third of its existing markets. The company also intends to expand its sales force, including sales and support employees as well as additional operations personnel to support the project.
