Vertiv Adds Single-phase, Mixed-voltage Output UPS Models Portfolio

Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has introduced its Vertiv Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion double-conversion, online uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system for 5kVA-10kVA 120V/208V applications. The expansion of the Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion line to 10kVA (from 1-3kVA) further rounds out the Vertiv portfolio of lithium-ion UPS systems and solutions for the network edge.

Vertiv is accepting orders for the new 5-10kVA models in the United States and Canada and shipping from current inventories.

The Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion models are designed for the smaller spaces typical of the network edge, with a convertible rack/tower design and a 3U (5kVA/6kVA) or 4U (8kVA/10kVA) footprint. The single-phase input UPS has advanced split-phase output of 120V and 208V, thus eliminating the need for bulky 208/120V stepdown transformers. An integrated maintenance bypass cabinet preserves additional rack U-space. All Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion UPS systems come with a five-year limited warranty.

The higher power density of lithium-ion batteries enabled Vertiv to pack more runtime in less space compared to a typical UPS with valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries, and that runtime can be extended with up to eight external battery cabinets.

With improved performance at higher operating temperatures and longer life expectancy, the lithium-ion batteries in the Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion reduce the total cost of ownership by up to 50 percent compared to VRLA batteries. In addition, lithium-ion batteries typically last eight to 10 years, compared to about three to five years for VRLA batteries, reducing or eliminating the cost and inconvenience of battery replacements during the life of the UPS.

“With this expansion of the Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion family, Vertiv becomes the first major UPS vendor in North America to offer a full lineup of 1 to 10kVA on-line lithium-ion UPS systems,” said Ramesh Menon, vice president of single-phase UPS and IT systems at Vertiv. “The Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion is compact, versatile and low-maintenance – a true set-it-and-forget-it solution ideal for remote locations with limited onsite technical resources.”

Vertiv analysis of IDC data shows lithium-ion UPS sales revenue in the North American IT channel market grew an incredible 168 percent in 2022 versus 2021. This greater adoption comes as the industry continues to value the greater power density, improved performance at higher operating temperatures, and longer life of lithium-ion technologies that result in a more environmentally friendly solution as compared to VRLA battery technologies.
