When it comes to the high-growth unified communications as a service (UCaaS) market, Vocalocity and ShoreTel led the growth charge in the second quarter, according to Synergy Research Group. Both are among the biggest players by some margin, generating annual revenue growth of 45% and 37% respectively.
Both outpaced the larger market: The firm found that the cloud UCaaS market as a whole grew 22% year-on-year in Q2.
Meanwhile, iCore, RingCentral and 8×8 all saw year-on-year revenue growth in the 18%-22% range. In aggregate, the six market leaders accounted for 54% of total quarterly UCaaS revenues, with 8×8 maintaining its overall market share lead at 15%.
In terms of services mix, public cloud service offerings accounted for 52% of quarterly UCaaS revenues and private cloud accounted for 30%, with the balance coming from premise + hybrid cloud and contact center SaaS.
North America continues to account for over 85% of worldwide revenues, due to the under-developed nature of the market in other regions.
“Looking beyond North America, I expect to see stronger growth in EMEA and APAC regions, which currently account for 49% of traditional UC and enterprise voice revenues but only 13% of UCaaS revenues,“ said Synergy Research Group’s founder and Chief Analyst Jeremy Duke. “Operators such as Telstra and Orange are becoming increasingly active in these regions and UCaaS is becoming more accepted as a reliable, secure and economically compelling business communications solution.”
