Birch Closes Covista Buy

Channel-friendly IP communications provider Birch Communications has closed its Covista acquisition—its 17th buy since 2006.

The addition of Covista, a facilities-based CLEC that serves business, wholesale and residential customers, will broaden Birch’s footprint across 10 states and provide regional depth to its core markets.

“This acquisition strengthens the breadth and scope of the Birch IP-Network,” said Vincent M. Oddo, Birch president and CEO.  “Covista’s Metaswitch-based facilities network, with switching centers in Tennessee and New York, complements our current IP-Network and expands it to 10 states. In addition, several new markets within Tennessee and New York have also been added to our IP-Network footprint.  In total, Birch now provides service to customers in 45 states and the District of Columbia.”

The added facilities also mean more customers that can be served with its IP-based service offerings, the company noted. “This acquisition greatly enhances our hosted PBX, SIP trunking and carrier services (wholesale) product offerings,” said Chris Aversano, Birch COO.  “We look forward with great enthusiasm to welcoming the former Covista customers into our Birch family and introducing them to our award-winning customer care team, as well as our expanding portfolio of IP-based services.”
