Global Capacity Opens D.C.-Area PoP for One Marketplace

Global Capacity has opened a new One Marketplace point of presence (PoP) in Ashburn, Va., to better serve the Washington D.C. area.

The PoP, in Equinix’s DC6 data center at 21721 Filigree Ct., offers an interconnected, physical network aggregation platform to support One Marketplace, a cloud application that automates the design, pricing, delivery and maintenance of network solutions. For Global Capacity, Ashburn is a critical data center hub for cloud connectivity services, content delivery, carrier hotels and back-up and recovery, and connectivity to some of the largest telecom networks in the world as well as high concentrations of IT, biotech, federal government and international businesses.

“One Marketplace provides award-winning, competitively-priced, high-performance network solutions that support the exploding bandwidth requirements for wholesale and enterprise customers,” adds Ben Edmond, chief revenue officer of Global Capacity. “With the new hub in Ashburn, One Marketplace offers businesses in the Washington, D.C. area a broad range of service attributes to meet network transport needs for voice, data, storage and video applications.”

“The market acceptance of One Marketplace has been tremendous, with four new PoPs deployed in the last three months,” said Jack Lodge, president of Global Capacity. “We believe that this acceptance has been driven by the pent-up demand for simple, transparent and automated procurement and delivery of cost-effective network connectivity.”

In a recent survey, Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs revealed that data traffic on metro access is set to increase 560 percent by 2017, caused primarily by rising video usage and the growth of data centers.
