GTT Founder Awarded IEEE Chairman’s Award

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has presented Mr. H. Brian Thompson, founder and executive chairman of the board at GTT Communications, with its annual CQR Chairman’s Award.

The IEEE Communications Society Technical Committee on Communications Quality & Reliability (CQR) selects Chairman’s Award recipients based on sustained contributions in the field of quality, reliability and security of communications services, networks or systems. The candidate must also demonstrate that he or she adds value to others and must display integrity consistent with that of a role model.

The IEEE recognized Thompson with the Chairman’s Award for his leadership in the design and implementation of historic telecommunications technologies that fundamentally improve access to quality communications for people around the world; his lifelong service to others as advisor and mentor; and his exemplary business and policy acumen that helped to steer the digital revolution.

He founded and serves as executive chairman of GTT, a global communications firm, and his  telecommunications career has also spanned companies including LCI International, Qwest, MCI, and Comsat International. He sits on several additional committees and boards, including the Executive Committee of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission and the Irish prime minister’s Ireland-America Economic Advisory Board.

“I am honored to be recognized with the IEEE CQR 2017 Chairman’s Award,” said Thompson. “This accolade is a testament to the shared vision of my colleagues and peers as we continue to work together to evolve our industry, improve and expand infrastructure, and address the dynamic regulatory environment to deliver innovative communication services to people and organizations on a global basis.”
