Hurricane Electric Extends Point of Presence for Deep Edge Realty, Portland, Maine

Hurricane Electric, which operates an IPv6-native internet backbone, rolled out a new point of presence (PoP) in Deep Edge Realty in Portland, Maine.

Deep Edge specifically delivers location-focused interconnection capabilities through a deepened edge portfolio in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. This location has 52,272 square feet of space, divisible by racks, cages or NNN suites in a location in downtown Portland. The tier III facility has more than 10 local, regional and long-haul fiber network providers and is a Northern New England Neutral Internet Exchange (NNENIX) PoP.

Southern Maine is known for wholesale and retail industries, as well as finance, health and tourism, and has a fast-growing technology sector. The facility serves those industries by providing advanced access control and video surveillance powered by Central Maine Fiber, with diverse generator capacity on site. With private suites, users can build their own secure, network hub in a fit-out-ready space.

This PoP is Hurricane Electric’s second location in Maine and seventh in New England, and will provide capabilities for improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next-gen IP connectivity services.

“Portland is an interconnection hub for Maine and all of New England and we are thrilled to be able to provide connectivity to Deep Edge Realty’s customers,” said Mike Leber, president, Hurricane Electric. “This PoP supports our goal of ensuring customers have IP transit with low latency and access to thousands of networks for enterprises around the world.”

Customers of Deep Edge Realty and in and around Portland will gain access to new connectivity options, plus access to Hurricane’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE and 1GigE ports. Additionally, customers at the facility are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane’s global network, which offers more than 30,000 BGP sessions with over 10,000 different networks via 310 exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
