Industry Veteran Tom McCrosson Passed Away

Telecom industry pioneer and founder of SolEx, Thomas Joseph McCrosson, passed away at home after a long illness on March 12, 2025. Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosemary (Gildea); his children, Thomas, Michael (Uma), and Elizabeth O’Rourke (Sean); and seven grandchildren. He formed SoleEx, founded originally as Technology Opportunity Group, with his two sons. During the last 25 years, he has cherished his time working alongside his “boys” and growing SolEx into a successful corporation.

Following a career in tourism throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Tom pivoted to the emerging telecommunications industry. His history in telecom reaches all the way back to the origins of the partner channel, to the days of divestiture and deregulation, including being part of the initial efforts to resell AT&T’s first product after its divestiture

While at MCI, he was a three-time member of the Chairman’s 100 Inner Circle, in recognition as the top revenue producing channel in the company.  He also served on the Mayor’s telecommunications task force for the City of New York and helped draft the Telecommunications Recovery Act for the City.  McCrosson also was involved in the founding of the Telecommunications Resellers Association (TRA), evolving the methods by which companies would work together for the greater good, and many years later, he was part of the company that created VoIP pioneers Deltathree.

Tom grew up in Washington Heights, New York and attended Incarnation School, La Salle Academy, and Baruch College. He was happiest by the side of his beloved Rosemary, as many said they were connected at the hip. They traveled the world together through their years working in the airlines and in tourism, and continued enjoying exotic family vacations and cruises, but always circled back to their treasured retreat in the Hamptons. As a father, he coached youth basketball and baseball, drove miles to practices, games and baseball trivia shows, while attending every school concert, Father-Daughter dance and special event in between.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville. He was 72 years old.
