DataGrail unwrapped its 2024 Data Privacy Trends report, which focuses on consumer-driven data privacy trends for which businesses need to prepare. Highlights include:

  • 2023 saw a 246 percent increase in the total volume of data privacy requests compared to 2021.
  • Businesses are spending 36 percent more, YoY, to meet the influx of requests; the estimated cost is now $881,000 per year, per one million identities.
  • In 2023, 80 percent of privacy requests came from jurisdictions that didn’t have privacy laws, evidence that people worldwide want more control over their personal data.
  • 75 percent of websites ignore GPC requests, which are supposed to enable consumers to automatically tell businesses not to sell or share their data for advertising. This means most businesses are not respecting individuals’ privacy requests.

Finally, RSA announced the 10 finalists for its 19th annual RSAC Innovation Sandbox contest. This competition calls on young companies in cybersecurity to demonstrate cutting-edge technology to a panel of judges and the live audience at RSA Conference 2024, Monday, May 6.
