Salesforce to Acquire Informatica to Enhance Trusted Data Foundation

Salesforce, which offers AI-based CRM software, entered into an agreement to purchase Informatica, which provides enterprise AI-powered cloud data management. Per the terms, Salesforce will acquire Informatica for approximately $8 billion in equity value, net of Salesforce’s current investment in the company. Shareholders will receive $25 in cash, per share.

The transaction is expected to enhance Salesforce’s trusted data foundation, which is critical for deploying powerful, responsible agentic AI. They plan to combine Informatica’s rich data catalog, data integration, governance, quality and privacy, metadata management and master data management (MDM) services with the Salesforce platform, establishing a unified architecture for agentic AI that allows AI agents to operate safely, responsibly and at scale.

This helps to boost data transparency, understanding and governance.

“Together, Salesforce and Informatica will create the most complete, agent-ready data platform in the industry,” said Marc Benioff, Salesforce’s chair and CEO. “By uniting the power of Data Cloud, MuleSoft, and Tableau with Informatica’s industry-leading, advanced data management capabilities, we will enable autonomous agents to deliver smarter, safer, and more scalable outcomes for every company, and significantly strengthen our position in the $150 billion-plus enterprise data market.”

“Joining forces with Salesforce represents a significant leap forward in our journey to bring data and AI to life by empowering businesses with the transformative power of their most critical asset — their data,” said Informatica CEO, Amit Walia. “We have a shared vision for how we can help organizations harness the full value of their data in the AI era.”

Bringing together Informatica’s cloud-native capabilities – including its extensive data catalog, data integration, governance, quality and privacy, metadata management and MDM – with the Salesforce platform will unlock new capabilities for Salesforce’s enterprise data stack, delivering a complete solution to the challenges of AI at scale by:

  • Achieving data clarity with Data Cloud.
  • Elevating Agentforce.
  • Augmenting the Customer 360.
  • Governed understanding for MuleSoft.
  • Context-rich insight for Tableau.

“Truly autonomous, trustworthy AI agents need the most comprehensive understanding of their data. The combination of Informatica’s advanced catalog and metadata capabilities with our Agentforce platform delivers exactly this,” said Steve Fisher, the president and CTO of Salesforce. “Imagine an AI agent that goes beyond simply seeing data points to understanding their full context — origin, transformation, quality, and governance. This clarity, from a unified Salesforce and Informatica solution, will allow all types of businesses to automate more complex processes and make more reliable AI-driven decisions.”

Salesforce plans to integrate Informatica’s technology stack, seamlessly embedding this “system of understanding” into the Salesforce ecosystem. It will also support Informatica’s strategy of building best-in-class, AI-powered data management products, delivering an end-to-end platform with integrated solutions to connect, manage and unify data across any cloud, hybrid or multi-cloud environment.

“Our acquisition strategy is methodical, patient, and decisive — targeting transformative assets like Informatica when the calculus aligns to maximize customer success,” said Robin Washington, Salesforce president and chief operating and financial officer. “This proposed acquisition will be a key enabler for Salesforce’s next phase of AI-driven growth — and we will move quickly to integrate their capabilities and unlock synergies on a fast timeline, particularly in areas like public sector, life sciences, healthcare and financial services. We’re laser-focused on accelerated execution to increase our market differentiation and deliver sustained benefits for all Salesforce stakeholders.”

Salesforce plans to invest in Informatica’s ecosystem of data and infrastructure partners, applying the full power of Salesforce marketing and distribution teams to accelerate the growth of Informatica’s cloud business.
