Looking to expand further in North America, TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has announced the expansion of its network with a new Point-of-Presence (PoP) within the Cologix 151 Front Street data center in Toronto.
The extension of TSIC’s fiber network into Canada for the first time will enable TSIC to tap more wholesale and retail customers in the region; the company has 200+ PoPs globally, and this is its 36th in North America. It now covers 24 markets.
“We’re excited to open this, our first Canadian PoP,” said Ivo Pascucci, regional director for the Americas at TSIC. “The addition of Toronto, based on fiber links to New York and Chicago, means Canadian customers now have the option to connect locally for high quality global reach.”
TSIC has been in North America since 1995, with a growing Canadian and U.S. customer base that includes Facebook, JustinTV and The Quilt. In addition to opening new PoPs and launching the TeliaaSonera IPX, TSIC has 100G-enabled its network throughout North America and Europe.
“Our ongoing expansion of the North American network is strategically important and will help us live up to our brand promise to be the carrier of the future,” Pascucci added. “In fact, our IP network is the world’s third largest now directly connecting 345+ million end-users. We find North American customers are increasingly turning to us as a competitive alternative for their telecommunications needs.”
