Barracuda found that it can take just five minutes for an AI-driven phishing attack to bypass traditional security controls, compromise an endpoint and establish attacker persistence. Once compromised, one in seven accounts will be used to launch additional attacks.
- Ninety percent of high-volume phishing campaigns now use phishing-as-a-service kits, according to Barracuda.
- Email-based attacks carrying malicious files accounted for 82 percent of all observed activity in 2025, according to Check Point. Approximately one in every 68 emails with attachments is now malicious.
- Microsoft Threat Intelligence detected roughly 8.3 billion email-based phishing threats in the first quarter of 2026. Seventy-eight percent of email threats were link-based, while credential phishing remained the dominant objective behind malicious payloads.
