Novus Brings Load-Balancing Gear to Mix with Partnership

Novus, a boutique telecommunications and IP distributor, has added KEMP Technologies as a partner, and will resell its entire line of LoadMaster load-balancing gear, including those approved for Microsoft Lync environments.

The deal encompasses KEMP’s hardware load balancers, virtual load balancers, multi-site load balancers and Cisco USC load balancers. All are geared toward small and mid-sized businesses.

The products are sold under the LoadMaster brand name. The five hardware load balancers range from entry-level models to more robust models supporting 1,000 physical and 1,000 virtual servers, and supporting up to 9,300 SSL transactions per second. Three virtual load balancers support the same features as hardware balancers; these products support 100 SSL transactions per second and have a maximum throughput of 1,000 Mbps. Two multi-site load balancers for mid-sized enterprises requiring high availability in VMWare and Hyper V environments. These distribute network traffic to alternative, geographically dispersed data centers. And one Cisco UCS load balancer supports B series Blade servers; this is a more sophisticated Level 7 content switching appliance.

Load-balancing technology improves application and Website performance by distributing network traffic evenly between routers and servers, so that no one system is underutilized or overburdened. It has taken on increased importance in recent years as the number of users requesting access to data, and the sheer volume of data itself, has exploded.

“Hardware load balancing is becoming increasingly important as more stress and traffic demands are being placed on corporate networks,” said Chris Meehan, managing partner at Novus. “KEMP’s broad portfolio enables Novus to expand its network of resellers while addressing the immediate needs of its growing base of Microsoft partners selling Lync technologies.”

KEMP’s load balancers, which are “approved” by Microsoft, optimize traffic for Exchange, Lync, SharePoint and Windows Terminal Services environments. They provide high-speed load balancing and content switching with application acceleration, data compression, content caching, SSL offload and network traffic optimization for robust application and traffic optimization.

SSL offload, in particular, improves network response by transferring processor-intensive encryption processing from the server to the load balancer. This frees up the server to do what it was meant to do: quickly process application requests and transfer data.
