Toshiba Adds Softphone to UCedge

Toshiba America Information Systems’  Telecommunication Systems Division has added a built-in softphone as part of an update to its UCedge client software available for Mac OS X computers.

“Toshiba’s UCedge softphone gives Mac computer users the ability to use their devices as extensions on their VIPedge, IPedge or hybrid cloud business communications solution,” said Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America. “Using the softphone enhances the UC benefits, including presence and instant messaging with both internal and external organizations.”

UCedge is compatible with Toshiba’s VIPedge cloud-based business telephone solution, the IPedge on-site unified communications system available via channel partners and Strata CIX systems with an IPedge Application Server–as well as Toshiba’s hybrid cloud solution.

UCedge delivers a full suite of UC capabilities, including:

  • Built-in softphone functions as an extension on the system with a headset or speakerphone
  • Federation of presence and instant messaging with external users on Microsof Skype for Business (Lync) Server users and external organizations using Toshiba’s UCedge clients
  • Cloud-synchronized call and IM history information across all devices
  • Contact center capabilities, including the ability for agents and supervisors to log into the contact center using a smartphone, PC or Mac computer, allowing them to manage customer calls and their own settings remotely

UCedge client software, including softphone, runs on Android and iOS smartphones and Windows and Mac OS X computers.
