Verizon Rolls Out 5G Edge with Microsoft Azure Stack Edge Platform

Verizon released its new on-premise, private edge compute solution. The Verizon 5G Edge with Microsoft Azure Stack Edge offers a cloud computing platform for offering compute and storage services at the network edge. Residing on the customer’s premise, this offering provides elements for improved efficiency, security, low lag and high bandwidth to support complex applications such as computer vision, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and machine learning (ML).

Retailers can use the service to process information in near-real time, gaining actionable data-driven insight to increase inventory accuracy and power supply chains. Manufacturers, meanwhile, can employ the software to maximize asset performance, optimize operations, minimize downtime and gain end-to-end visibility across all processes.

“Our partnership with Microsoft brings 5G Edge to enterprises, dropping latency at the edge, helping critical, performance-impacting applications respond more quickly and efficiently,” said Sampath Sowmyanarayan, Verizon Business’ Chief Revenue Officer. “5G is ushering in next-generation business applications, from core connectivity to real-time edge compute and new applications and solutions that take advantage of AI transforming nearly every industry.”
